Jimmy talks to 2nd year SPT from Drexel University Joe Rinaldi about what he learned in his first year of PT school. This talk stemmed from a blog post that Joe wrote that outlined some great lessons that he wanted to share.
Joe’s Bio:
My name is Joe, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Westfield, NJ. I’ve played sports my entire life and have always been fascinated with fitness. I began my undergraduate studies at Bucknell University where I majored in Biology and worked in a research lab. After a few weeks at school, I felt that something was missing so I decided to walk on to Bucknell’s football team. Unfortunately, my collegiate football career quickly came to an end due to some medical concerns. Without football, I found myself yearning for both a physical and mental challenge and that is exactly what I found in the weight room. I found myself constantly in the gym and I quickly fell in love with fitness. After my sophomore year I realized that molecular biology wasn’t my passion and I decided to change course to pursue what I loved. I decided to pursue a degree in exercise science by transferring to Rutgers University where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Applied Kinesiology.
While attending Rutgers, I interned and then worked with my high school athletic trainer, Chris Flores, at his sports performance and personal training facility – Flo Fitness. While working with Chris and fellow trainer Johnny Rodriguez, I learned more about fitness, exercise and movement than I had in almost a decade of lifting weights. While working at Flo Fitness I had the incredible opportunity to train youth athletes of all ages, including high level high school and collegiate athletes. Working at Flo Fitness afforded me valuable coaching and training experience that I will carry with me throughout my career. My coaching experience at Flo Fitness has given me a deep coaching skill set as well as a unique perspective on training for sports performance and injury prevention.
I am currently pursing my Doctorate Of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Drexel University in Philadelphia and plan to graduate in March of 2019. When I’m not at the gym or studying, I enjoy staying up to date on some of my favorite sports team (Yankees, Giants, Knicks) as well as practicing video editing and cinematography.
I enjoy combining my passions of cinematography, fitness and physical therapy to produce content on my Instagram page (@joe_flofit) – you should check it out! I’m a total nerd when it comes to all things physical therapy… well, I’m just a nerd in general. In addition to physical therapy, fitness and film-making, I enjoy motivating others and spreading positive messages.
I am always open to feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism, so don’t hesitate to reach out! If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or you just want to get in touch, please feel free to contact me via Instagram or through the contact page.
Thanks for reading and I hope you enjoy!
